Our Story
For many decades, Silicon Valley Piano showcases a rich family legacy in the piano sales industry, serving the greater Bay Area.
Our story began in the early 1960’s when Yuma Tsuchiya started Yamaha Peninsula Pianos in downtown Mountain View. Soon after, the main store found its home on El Camino Real in Palo Alto. It was at this store that Yuma introduced Yamaha pianos to the Bay Area, dispelling the prevailing misconception that Yamaha was primarily associated with motorcycles during that time. Yuma shared with consumers that Yamaha had its origins in Japan as a piano and reed organ manufacturer in the early 1900s.
During the mid-1980s, Yamaha Peninsula Pianos relocated to San Jose and transformed into Yamaha Peninsula Music Center, under the T. Yuma & Associates Corporation. Over the subsequent decade, Yuma and his team of sales representatives and associates achieved remarkable success because of their paramount focus for personalized, high quality, and friendly service. This allowed them to continue to be one of top distributors of pianos in the South Bay Area.
Then came early 2000’s when Mr. Yuma Decided to venture out into new challenges. Thus Silicon Valley Piano (SVP) was started. While continuing to offer second-hand Yamaha pianos as an excellent option for aspiring young pianists, SVP expanded their inventory with a range of piano manufacturers to meet the needs of consumers: whether beginners or seasoned professionals. SVP now offers Casio, Ritmuller, W. Hoffmann, and C. Bechstein as their line up of brand new pianos as well as a great selection of used and quality refurbished Yamaha and Kawai pianos.
On March 13, 2020, Yuma Tsuchiya passed away unexpectedly due to complications after a minor surgery. Four days after Yuma’s passing on March 17, 2020, the Santa Clara County issued a shelter-in-place order due to the coronavirus pandemic. Along with all non-essential business in the area, SVP closed for a period of several weeks. His family was left wondering what the future would hold for the piano business. The Tsuchiya family decided to carry on Yuma's legacy, which had begun over 60 years ago. This legacy involved providing quality pianos to meet the needs of all customers.
